Leader Builder is a fly-fishing utility app for saving the leader recipes — a line + leader + optional tip — that fish best on each of your rods, plus the casting notes that make them work. A studio-curated gear catalog (rods, fly lines, leaders, tippet, sink-tips) is built in so you can assemble recipes without typing every spec from scratch. It's free, offline-first, and built for spey, switch, trout spey, and single-hand anglers.
Any of the three works equally well. Pick whichever is most convenient: Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or Email + Password. Your gear and recipes sync across your devices regardless of which one you choose.
Yes. Once you've signed in and the initial catalog has downloaded, the app works fully offline. Your edits sync back up automatically the next time you have a signal.
Tap the gear icon (top left of the home screen) → My Rods → Add a new rod. You can either pick a rod from the studio-curated catalog, or fill out a custom form for one we don't have yet.
From the home screen, tap the gear icon → choose Lines/Heads or Tips → tap the funnel icon to switch to the full catalog → tap a row to add it to your collection. Or scroll to the footer and add a custom one.
Studio-curated rods, lines, and tips are shared across all users and are read-only so they stay consistent. If you find an error or a missing spec, email info@moonshinerxwerks.com and we'll get it corrected.
On the home screen, tap the hamburger icon in the top-right corner. Choose Type (Single Hand / Switch / Spey / Trout Spey) or Brand (alphabetical). Your choice is remembered across launches.
Tap a rod from the home screen, then tap "+" or "Build a recipe" on the rod detail screen. Pick a line, a leader, optionally a tip, and set the water conditions (flow speed, target depth, fly type). Save it and it'll show up under that rod.
Each recipe has an optional free-form memo for anything you want to remember about how that rig casts — feel, anchor, tail-heavy, loop shape, conditions where it shines. Open a recipe and tap "Add casting notes" to write one. Edit or clear from the same surface.
Open the line in your catalog and tap "Use this line on another rod." Check off the rods you want to associate it with, then Save. If the rod you're looking for isn't in your collection yet, tap "Find or add a rod" right from the same sheet.
Tap the gear icon on the home screen → Settings → Sign Out. Your local copy of the data is cleared on sign-out; signing back in re-syncs everything from the cloud.
An in-app account-deletion option is on the roadmap. Until it ships, email info@moonshinerxwerks.com from the email address associated with your account and we'll process the deletion. This removes your account, recipes, custom catalog entries, and favorites permanently.
No analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no third-party trackers. Pairing data (which gear you put on which rod) may be used in aggregate, fully de-identified form to power recommendations for other users — but never your notes, recipe titles, or anything you wrote yourself. See the Privacy Policy for full detail.
Pull down on the rod or catalog list to refresh. If it stays empty, sign out and sign back in — that re-pulls the catalog from the cloud. If the problem persists, contact us with your device model and OS version.
Open the app while connected to Wi-Fi or cellular and give the sync layer a moment to catch up. If recipes still don't appear within a minute, sign out and back in to force a fresh sync.
If a crash repeats reliably, email info@moonshinerxwerks.com with: what you tapped just before the crash, your device model, your iOS or Android version, and the app version (Settings → About).
