Happy Hour Radar — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 6, 2026 · Last Updated: March 25, 2026
Happy Hour Radar ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Happy Hour Radar mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account information — email address, display name, and phone number used for sign-in
- Profile preferences — vibe tag selections (e.g. Chill, Craft Beer, Outdoor) and activity interests (e.g. Trivia, Karaoke, Live Music)
- Venue ratings and comments you submit
- Crowd density reports you contribute
- Group plan details — plan titles, dates, and participant lists
- Contact information you share when inviting others to group plans
- Business information — if you claim a venue: business name, address, phone number, website, and logo
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device and platform information — device model (e.g. iPhone, iPad), platform type (e.g. iOS, Android), operating system version, app version, and build number. This data is stored in your user profile and used for compatibility, debugging, and aggregated usage analytics.
- App usage data (screens viewed, features used, session duration)
- Crash reports and performance diagnostics
- Push notification tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens used to deliver alerts you have opted into)
1.3 Location Information
Happy Hour Radar is a location-based service. We collect location data to power core functionality:
- Approximate or precise location to display nearby venues and calculate distances
- Proximity data to trigger timed deal alerts when you are near a venue with an active deal
- Check-in proximity detection (within approximately 35 meters of a venue) to automatically log venue visits when you have visit tracking enabled
- Reverse-geocoded city and state derived from your location coordinates using Apple's on-device CLGeocoder API. The resulting city and state names are stored in your user profile to enable regional content and aggregated analytics. Your precise coordinates are not stored on our servers for this purpose.
Location is collected while the App is in use. If you grant "Always" (iOS) or "Allow all the time" (Android) background location permission, location is also collected while the App is running in the background to automatically log venue visits and trigger proximity-based deal alerts. Background location is used solely for these features and is not collected when the App is closed or terminated. You can disable background visit tracking at any time via the "Track Visited Venues" toggle in the App's settings, or revoke location permissions entirely through your device settings (though this will limit core features).
1.4 Visit and Check-In Data
If you enable visit tracking, we record:
- Venues where a check-in was detected or confirmed
- Timestamps of check-ins (subject to a 4-hour cooldown per venue to prevent duplicate records)
- Aggregate visit counts per venue
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the App and its features
- Display relevant venues, deals, and crowd levels based on your location and preferences
- Send push notifications, proximity alerts, timed deal reminders, and daily digests you have opted into
- Facilitate group plans, invitations, RSVPs, and in-app communications among users
- Allow business owners to manage venue listings, post announcements, and view aggregated analytics
- Personalize venue recommendations based on your preferences and visit history
- Generate aggregated, anonymized analytics about App usage by region and platform to improve our service and guide expansion to new markets
- Detect and prevent fraudulent activity, abuse, and other policy violations
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
- Communicate with you about product updates, security notices, and support
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 With Other App Users
Certain information is visible to other users as part of the App's social features:
- Ratings and comments are displayed anonymously on venue pages — your identity is not attached to this content
- Crowd density reports are aggregated and displayed anonymously — your identity is not disclosed
- Group plan details (venue, time, participants) are visible only to invited plan members
- If you are a business owner, your business name and contact details appear on your venue page
3.2 With Venue Owners
Venue owners who manage their listing through the dashboard can see aggregated, anonymous data only:
- Anonymous ratings and review text (no reviewer names or identifying information)
- Aggregate visit counts, dates, and trends (no visitor names or identifying information)
- Deal confirmation counts
Venue owners cannot see your name, email, phone number, location, or any other personally identifying information.
3.3 Service Providers
We may share data with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the App (e.g. cloud infrastructure, analytics, push notification services, payment processors for business subscriptions). All service providers are bound by confidentiality obligations and may not use your data for their own purposes.
3.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
3.5 Business Transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
3.6 No Sale of Personal Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Notifications and Communications
You have full control over the notifications you receive. You may opt in or out of any of the following at any time through the App's notification settings:

- Crowd level updates for subscribed venues
- Real-time announcements from venues you follow
- Daily digest summaries
- Friend and group plan activity
- Check-in prompts
You can also manage push notification permissions through your device's operating system settings at any time.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's services:
- Account data is retained until you delete your account
- Visit history and check-in records are retained until you delete them or close your account
- Ratings and comments may remain in aggregated or anonymized form after account deletion
- Business listing data is retained for the duration of an active subscription and for a reasonable period thereafter
You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 9).
6. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure — including encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we take commercially reasonable steps to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

- Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Cloud Firestore (database), Cloud Storage (images), and Cloud Messaging (notifications)
- Apple MapKit — Map display and venue location services
- Apple CLGeocoder — On-device reverse geocoding to derive city and state from location coordinates

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. If changes are material, we will notify you via a prominent notice in the App or by email. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
