The short version: Your journal is yours. Everything you write stays on your device by default. Cloud sync is available to all users via iCloud. AI compilation runs on-device for free users and automatically via cloud for DaySnip+ subscribers. Your content is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train AI models.

1. Who We Are

DaySnip is developed and operated by moonshinerXwerks LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). You can reach us at john@moonshinerxwerks.com.

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the DaySnip app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch ("the App"). DaySnip is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Content You Create

DaySnip is a journaling app. The content you create — voice notes, text entries, guided reflections, mood tags, and compiled journal entries — is stored locally on your device by default using Apple's SwiftData framework.

2.2 Technical Information

We collect minimal technical information needed to operate the App:

Device identifier — A vendor-scoped identifier (identifierForVendor) used solely to detect and resolve sync conflicts when the same entry is created on multiple devices while offline. This identifier is unique to DaySnip and cannot be used to identify you across other apps or by third parties.
Subscription status — Whether you hold an active DaySnip+ or Therapy Prep subscription. This is processed entirely through Apple's StoreKit. We never receive your payment information.

2.3 Speech Recognition

DaySnip uses Apple's Speech Recognition framework to transcribe voice notes. Depending on your device and iOS version, speech recognition may be processed on-device or may send audio data to Apple's servers for processing. Apple's handling of speech data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not independently transmit, store, or have access to your audio recordings on any server.

2.4 Local Notifications

DaySnip may send local notifications for capture reminders and reflection prompts. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and do not involve any data transmission. You can manage notification permissions at any time through your device's Settings.

2.5 What We Do Not Collect

No name, email address, or account credentials (DaySnip has no user accounts)
No advertising identifiers (IDFA)
No location data
No contact list or other device data

Note on crash reporting: Apple collects crash reports and diagnostic data through its standard platform-level reporting. This data may be shared with us through App Store Connect in anonymized, aggregate form. We do not integrate any third-party crash analytics SDKs.

3. How Your Data Is Stored and Synced

3.1 On-Device Storage (Default)

All journal content is stored locally on your device. No internet connection is required to capture, view, or search your entries. If you delete the App, your local data is deleted with it.

3.2 iCloud Sync

If you are signed into iCloud on your device, DaySnip may sync your journal entries across your devices via Apple's CloudKit. iCloud sync is available to all users (free and subscribed) and operates automatically when an iCloud account is present. This means:

Data is stored in your iCloud account, not on our servers
Apple encrypts your data in transit and at rest
We cannot read your synced journal content
You can disable sync or delete your iCloud data at any time from your device's iCloud settings

Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

3.3 AI Compilation

DaySnip compiles your daily entries into a cohesive journal wrap using AI:

Free tier: Compilation runs entirely on-device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. Your content never leaves your device for this feature.
DaySnip+: Compilation is automatically processed via our secure cloud AI service to generate an enhanced wrap with additional writing styles. Content is transmitted over an encrypted connection (TLS), used only to generate your compilation, and not retained, logged, or used to train any AI model. There is no user-facing toggle to switch between on-device and cloud AI — cloud compilation is enabled automatically for active DaySnip+ subscribers.

4. Therapy Prep Feature

The Therapy Prep feature generates a weekly AI summary designed to help you prepare for therapy sessions.

Summaries are generated using the same AI pipeline described in Section 3.3
Summaries are stored locally on your device
If you choose to share a summary (e.g., via the PDF export), that sharing happens through Apple's standard Share Sheet — we have no involvement in or visibility into what you share or with whom
Journal content processed for Therapy Prep summaries is never retained by us or used to train AI models

Important: Therapy Prep is not a medical device, not a clinical tool, and is not a substitute for professional mental health care. AI-generated summaries may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or misinterpretations of your journal content. See our Terms of Service for full disclaimers.

5. How We Use Information

We use the limited information we collect solely to:

Operate and deliver the App's features
Resolve multi-device sync conflicts
Verify subscription entitlements through Apple's StoreKit
Respond to support requests you initiate

We do not use your information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any purpose other than providing DaySnip to you.

6. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your journal content with any third party, with the following narrow exceptions:

Apple / CloudKit — Your data may be synced to your personal iCloud account as described in Section 3.2.
Apple Speech Recognition — Voice recordings may be processed by Apple's speech recognition service as described in Section 2.3.
AI compilation service — If you are a DaySnip+ subscriber, your day's entries are sent to our compilation endpoint for processing only, as described in Section 3.3. No third-party AI provider receives raw journal content for training.
Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users, provided that any such disclosure would be limited to technical/account data (which is minimal) and would never include raw journal content we do not possess.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Local data: Retained on your device until you delete individual entries, clear your journal, or uninstall the App.
iCloud data: Retained in your iCloud account until you delete it from within the App or via your iCloud settings. We have no ability to delete your iCloud data on your behalf.
AI compilation data: Not retained. Entries sent for cloud AI compilation are processed and discarded immediately.
Subscription data: Apple retains records of your subscription transactions per their own policies.

Because DaySnip has no user accounts and we do not store your journal content on our servers, there is no "account deletion" process. Uninstalling the App removes your local data. Disabling iCloud Sync and deleting your iCloud Drive data removes your synced data.

8. Children's Privacy

DaySnip is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because DaySnip does not require account creation and stores data locally by default, minimal personal information is involved regardless of user age. If you believe a child has provided us information through a support channel, please contact us at john@moonshinerxwerks.com and we will take steps to address it.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we handle:

All data transmission uses TLS encryption
CloudKit data is encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest
We do not store journal content on our own servers
Subscription verification is handled by Apple's StoreKit infrastructure

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to keep your device protected with a passcode and enable Face ID / Touch ID for the App.

10. Your Choices and Rights

You have full control over your data:

Access and export: Your entries are always accessible within the App. PDF export is available for compiled entries and Therapy Prep summaries.
Deletion: Delete individual entries, specific days, or all journal data from within the App at any time.
Sync: iCloud Sync can be disabled by signing out of iCloud or removing DaySnip from your iCloud settings.
Notifications: Manage capture and reflection reminder notifications through your device's Settings at any time.
Subscription: Manage or cancel your subscription through Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA). Because we do not maintain a database of your personal data or journal content, most of these rights are exercised directly through your device. 11. Third-Party Services

DaySnip integrates with the following Apple platform services. These are governed by Apple's own privacy policies:

Apple StoreKit — Subscription purchase and management
Apple CloudKit — iCloud sync (available to all users)
Apple Foundation Models — On-device AI compilation
Apple Speech Recognition — Voice note transcription (may involve server-side processing)
Apple WidgetKit / App Groups — Widget capture feature
Apple User Notifications — Local capture and reflection reminders

We do not integrate with third-party advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or social platforms.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will notify you within the App. Your continued use of DaySnip after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
